Holiday Weekend Dessert

May 24, 2013 — Do you have big plans for this Memorial Day weekend? Do any of them happen to include yummy food? I'm sure many of you are shaking your heads "yes" right now! And maybe some of you also know you still need a tiny bit of inspiration for your menu. Well, I'm here to help with at least one course....dessert!Rather your plans include a backyard barbecue, kick off to the lake season, picnic with the family, or just a quiet meal at home with your family, this dessert would work great for all of them. When the thermometer starts to rise, I start to crave all things citrus! And yes, most of the time, that means something in the lemon family, but I'm an equal opportunity kinda girl. So if I find something that includes orange, lime or even key lime, instead, that's great too. For me, there is just something so refreshing about enjoying crisp, cool, refreshing citrus flavors when the sun is shining, warming everything in sight! One bite and it seems like you are instantly cooled down.So when I found this dessert, I figured it would be great to feature right before this "gateway to summer" weekend. Use it over the holiday, or save it for when it's even hotter, either way, it's so easy, so delicious, and something the adults and kids alike with absolutely love.Happy Memorial Day Weekend!! I hope it's safe, happy, fun and filled with lots of yumminess!Orange Sherbet Jell-O Inspired by Six Sisters' Stuff1 c. water2 (3 oz.) boxes orange Jell-O2 (8 oz.) tubs Cool Whip1 pint orange sherbet1 (11 oz.) can madarin orangesZest of one orangeBring water to a boil. Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich

May 24, 2013 — Grilled cheese sandwiches are great, but sometimes they can be a bit boring. Here's a grilled cheese sandwich that will certainly spice things up. Created by Kevin Lynch of Closet Cooking, this recipe basically meshes together two cheesey favorites -- the jalapeno popper and grilled cheese sandwich. It's certainly a bit more complicated than your plain old grilled cheese, but the extra steps sure seem worth it. Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich Ingredients: - 2 jalapeno peppers, cut in half lengthwise and seeded - 2 slices sourdough bread - 1 tbsp butter, room temperature - 2 tbsps cream cheese, room temperature - 1/2 cup jack and cheddar cheese, shredded - 1 tbsp tortilla chips, crumbled Check out the rest of this recipe here.

May 24, 2013 — Today I decided to make a turkey alfalfa sprout sandwich that has been one of my favorites for years. Arby's Roast Beef Sandwich

May 23, 2013 — This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Arby's for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Despite being a dietitian, I have a weakness for Arby's. I love their curly fries and their original roast beef sandwich all smothered in a thick layer of Arby's sauce. Of course I don't eat this too often but love it anytime I do. Arby's has two new sandwiches coming out. One of them is the Arby’s KING’S HAWAIIAN roast beef sandwich which is roast beef on a KING"S HAWAIIAN bun. The other sandwich is the Arby's KING'S HAWAIIAN roast beef and swiss sandwich. This one comes with the roast beef, bun, swiss cheese, pickles and a creamy dijon sauce. These are only going to be available for a limited time so try it soon. Eating healthy can include fast food at times. I balance a meal like this by having a veggie rich meal for my next meal. Arby's has a sweet promotion going on to go along with their new sandwiches. It is called the Arby’s Hawaiian Getaway Sweepstakes. You have the chance to win to surf in paradise!! The grand prize being given away is a trip for two to Hawaii for four nights. I would love to win this prize. Also, it comes with lessons to learn how to surf at Hawaiian Fire. Enter by May 26th since that is when the sweepstakes ends.

Ixora Hotel - Perai, Penang (Part 2 - Buffet Breakfast)

May 23, 2013 — We came to Penang and stayed in Ixora to attend an important family prayer. That didn't allow us to sleep in late and we were indirectly forced to crawl out of bed quite early. After a warm shower, we came down for our breakfast. I am certainly not a breakfast person. I can't eat very early in the morning yet I didn't want to miss the spread of Western and local foods. My other half likes to begin his day with eggs, toast and oats. He decided in a jiffy and found an empty table to park himself. With me being a blogger, it was taking pictures for the first 5 minutes, much to the amusement of the rest who were picking their choices. I wasn't bothered with people staring at me and continued with more shots. Once done, I handed over my camera to my other half.  Next was helping myself to the nasi lemak and some of the condiments.   The nasi lemak will not receive a round of applause but the taste was right, almost the same from other hotels.   The cute little almond pie and coffee completed my meal. Surprising the pie wasn't loaded with plenty of sugar.  There's nothing much I can comment on the half boiled eggs, oats, croissants and fresh fruits. What can I say except thatit was a decent breakfast. However the credits will go for the freshness of the foods we had. As we were done with our meals, our transport arrived and we left for the nearby temple. To be continued...........     Related articlesKayu Nasi Kandar - (Penang Road) PenangIxora Hotel - Prai, Penang (Part 1)

Grilled Eggplant Parmesan Sandwiches

May 23, 2013 — One of my favourite sandwiches, and a repeat here on Island Vittles.  Pan-fried, breaded eggplant, mozzarella and red onions on an open face bun.  This time, I added a couple of strips of bacon to each, and used my Roasted Tomato and Jalapeno Vinaigrette instead of a basic tomato sauce.  Made a delicious and filling [...]
